2009-07-20 Little Hut of Leaping Fishes

A trip to China ten years ago unexpectedly became the inspiration behind Chiew-Siah Tei’s debut novel, Little Hut of Leaping Fishes, set in 19th century China. Through the lives of two brothers, the book offers an insight into the family dynasties and social hierarchies that underpinned Imperial China in the final days of the Qing Dynasty. The
author will read from her book, discuss the process of writing and researching the book, and why the story matters, not only to her personally but also to all overseas Chinese.
